I would also REALLY like to see this. I hope ara can become a more widespread API/plugin standard. So much could be achieved that's not possible with vst.
You might now be asking, what?
Well, think any kind of integrated audio editors inside of ableton. You could for example have something like metasynth, the upcoming spectral layers or some kind specific audio editor. Too bad they didn't think of the midi possibilities. Midi-editors, for example tracker editing of midi clips would be awesome.
DAWs could become a kind of modular editor type, where audio and note editing isn't dictated by the DAW designers, but instead for the users. This would increase workflow speed and creativity by inimaginable amounts.
Those of us who're interested in this should keep bumping this thread.

This is hands down the most innovative feature of 2011!
This is the type of breakthrough I've come to expect from Ableton, I'm shocked it came from Presonus first.

Ableton need to get on this asap - else all other DAWs incorporating Melodyne's ARA will compete with the warping goodness of Live... Live needs some innovation. Its been stagnant for way too long. Can even use versions in Lion yet either... sigh. Such a shame.
