LAZER HARP! Need suggestions for midi routing and mapping

Post by CutterFiltoff » Sat Oct 29, 2011 12:18 am

Howdy fellow abletonites! I'm hoping to draw from your vast knowledge and experience. Heres my challenge. I have a custom built lazer harp, that for all intents and purposes, is a blingin' 47 key midi controller without velocity. My partner and I have been working on sets to use in a social setting for the past year. Our main challenge is how to switch between the sets we've created in a seamless manner, as taking 20 seconds to load the next set can really kill the mood when a crowd of party-goers are jamming on the lazers. We initially considered using a 2 computer setup, but that option seems too expensive, and would complicate things otherwise. After much debate, I seem to have come up with a partial work around.
Using Clyphx (awesome free tool BTW!!), I think we could skip to a desired point in the arrangement, as well as move the loop marker. At that given part in the arrangement, the FX for the previous set would be turned off (CPU efficiency is very important, as we have more then 20 fx running for a set), and the FX for the current set would be automated On. The challenge I'm having is determining how to change my midi assignments for the new set. If I have 20 lazers set to clip launch slots, how can I re-assigne or perhaps re-route the midi to the new sets launchable clips? I suppose I could use multiple midi tracks routed to each sets launchable clips. I'd probably have to use an IAC driver to accomplish that?
At this point I'd love any help or advice!! Also, if you have some hot dance cuts (dubstep, breakbeat, glitch hop, ambient) made in ableton, and free of licensing restrictions, theres a possibility we'd like to purchase them for use on the lazer harp!
