relative mode for mixer during mixdown

So I've just finished the arrangement on a tune and got all my volume automations in etc. Now I want to do the mixdown without damaging all the automation. It would be neat if there was a mixdown button that set all the mixing controls to relative so they wouldnt break these automations.

How do people do this currently.....I'm thinking create a group for each track and then modify that to get the mix right. Whats your oppinion?

I just drop in a Utility in this situation. It also helps to use Utility for the automation in the first place - that way you can turn it off and adjust the mix to have good gain structure.
