Recording Guitar Problem...

Hello all!
First post here on the forum!
My main recording rig had some issues last night, so I decided to whip something up using my Imac, Mbox 2, and Ableton live 8!
This was my first time attempting recording guitar with an amp simlulator, but at first try everything SEEMED to be working just fine...but it really was not.
Here is what happened:
Once I went to the Setup, I chose my Audio IO to and from the Mbox, then Chose the first inst. track that appears with any new session-chose Ext in to allow signal from the Mbox, record enabled the track and then was able to record some guitar...
Now.. I was able to hear the dry signal through my monitors fed into the Mbox, but upon play back of what I recorded, I couldnt hear anything..The levels were jumpin, but I could not seem to figure out how to hear this even when I set the IO through my Mbox and was clearly getting the dry signal out of the monitors..
I also tried using Amplitube, I would get signal in the plugin, both in and outs, but yet could not hear the signal being fed into this plugin..
I tried seeking out any basic problem, but could not just figure it out.
Can anyone a little more experienced then me know what could have happened? Like I said, I made sure the track was routed to the send, with the send routed to the master.
Any help would be much appreciated ( as well as any other inst. rec. techniques for Ableton
)
