Top 5 headphones for mixing and editing when studio monitors are not available...

What do you guys think? What price range would you say is really necessary and where does it become not worth the money?

Thanks!

Audio Technica ATH M50 and very old Sennheiser HD 25 here. M50 sound superb...
I recommend you ask the pros at gearslutz.com ...

I really enjoy my DT 770s.
They sound great and they're comfortable.

In addition, they're solidly built: I don't anticipate them falling apart like my old pair of Senheissers.
Had I originally bought them instead of the Senheissers, I would have saved some money in the long run.

my experience..

started with sony 7506.. ear fatigue up the ass!!
AT M50's.. great bang for the buck but bass is misleading to me and the earpads aren't that comfortable for long use.. still good though
Senn HD650's.. what i currently use, no complaints really. use in conjuction with TB isonepro. u do need adequate power to run these.. not as much as the AKG's but not ideal for like plugging into iphones, or headphone jacks of laptops..

+1

Shure's SHR-440 are one of the best bangs for the buck I've ever picked up tho.

I'll look into those and also post on gearslutz, im surprised nobody mentioned beats. Although I have my own concern that is colors the sound too much for accurate mixing!
