Best Free NTFS Hard Drive read/writer For Mac ?
I have an external hard drive with allot of free space on it that I'd like to use for storage but it is formatted ntfs so my mac
can only read it but not write to it. I'd like to be able to copy files from my mac to this drive for storage, what is the best free utility for doing this and is it risky to use these kinds of utilities?

Hi,
Mac Fuse is good, works fine, but is slow and heavy on the CPU.
If you are not against paying a little for something much faster

cheers,

Hi oOo,
I use NTFS for Mac, after some Performance Problems with Mac Fuse:

... but it's not free, but worth the money - if you need it regularly.
greets

the other choice is the Tuxera NTFS driver:

i have been using Paragon NTFS for a while but lately it has been causing kernel panics on my system running Mac OS X 10.6.8, and i haven't been able to get any help with the problem from Paragon at all.

Never ever ever use Paragons NTFS driver.
I lost years of photos and music because it corrupted them while copying to and from my backup drive. The copy procedure worked fine as per normal, it was only when I checked my backup that I noticed all my wav files were corrupt, and my photo's had noise/green lines/corruption in them. Filessizes were exactly the same, and the copy had worked in the past, but all it took was once. This was of course when I had to restore from a backup, thus losing the originals. Paragon apologized and gave me my money back. Only time I've felt furious at a software company because there was no way to recover the corrupted files.

use Fat 32 if you must share between them - it's the only format they both understand

Unless you have files over 2gb, then you can't :SForge. wrote:use Fat 32 if you must share between them - it's the only format they both understand

the FAT32 filesize limit is 4GB (2^32).timothyallan wrote:Unless you have files over 2gb, then you can't :SForge. wrote:use Fat 32 if you must share between them - it's the only format they both understand
exFAT is a much better choice than FAT32 these days.
