stutter/freeze

Hey guys,

Bought more RAM today to solve this problem but it didn't help..

All of a sudden my projects in Ableton started stuttering, even the project I just started without any effects yet.
I tried installing the ASIO4ALL driver which didn't work. Now I use MME/DirectX. I tried all the buffersizes but nothing seems to help.

I have a fairly new computer, Windows 7 64bit. 12 RAM and an i7 processor.
Was buying the extra RAM not necessary? I thought the problem would be solved by adding some extra RAM but it's still the same, the only thing it did was making the pc a little bit faster.

Also, sorry for posting a new topic about this but all the others didn't help me at all.

Best wishes,
Eline

thanks for the fast reply!

By stuttering I mean the sound stops all the time and then continues, as if I used some stutter effect.
CPU is around 15-20

I just started creating this track so I just used a lead and a bass.
The first bit goes well, without stuttering (so only the lead is playing), but when the bass comes in, the sound just stops and continues all the time.
When I press stop, the last note just keeps playing and I can't stop it unless I close the program.

Sometimes Ableton just crashes and shuts down, then I hear this loud noise (loud, long beep) and it won't stop unless I turn my computer off..

ah okay thats clears things up a bit.

well, I tried cleaning out my Library but still nothing seems to work.

MME/DirectX works but then I have the ''stutter problem''
ASIO4ALl and ASIO V2.0 don't give sound at all.

well then, does anyone else know?

Edit: could it be stuttering because I have my speakers in the headphones on the front of my ESI U 46XL instead of going through the line in at the back?

Sounds like a soundcard/driver issue?
