Guys, just out of curiosity, I have been trying to produce a wobble baseline on Ableton lately, and things are not going as well as I thought they would. Anyone got any advice on Baseline/Dubstep production they could share with me?
Thanks a lot

1. Put low pass filter on synth
2. Put LFO on synth
3. ???
4. Wobble

Yeah, basically you want to take a synth (usually just a saw wave works fine) and put a low pass filter on it with some resonance. Whatever pitch the LPF is set at will be that main pitch you hear going up and down (it's not actually the note you're applying the filter to that changes that drastically). You can then take the volume and LPF frequency and put them on LFO's or automate, and adjust to taste. Things like saturation, overdrive, and compression (particularly sidechained) can add to the in-your-faceness of the sound.

doesn't necessarily have to be a low pass filer that you modulate, comb filters for instance are very popular nowadays if your synth or plugin has such. basically anything with tons of crazy modulations is good anyway

also, saturation.. or, put a modulated low pass filter with very high resonance on and bitcrush it (Redux) - instant talking bass..

3 replies & no dubstep hate... weird. Anyway, I would suggest definitely playing around with drawing in modulation as opposed to (only) driving it with LFOs; there are literally millions of people using simple LFO mods to create a wobble. At least by doing some of this by hand you can break the restrictive chains of quantization. Just sayin'.

There are also 10 million people using supersaws

If you use the techniques mentioned above, you can then add some Corpus effects. Loop Metal Needle, Metallic, both are very effective. Gives it a kinda futuristic robotic sound (Use the Pipe setting)

by flaming you mean saying that true dubstep is dead and that only frat bros and girly hoes are the only ones digging the overplayed....unoriginal sounds that are now "dubstep"?
There ain't no dub no more....maybe some reverb on a rinsed vengeance snare. Sadly.

plenty of producers keeping the dub in dubstep, me included, checkit

but yeh brostep style has moved in bigtime, plenty of great stuff still to be found, and the 'oldschool' dubstep is still there, interesting that in several interviews i read with skrillex they never mentioned the word dubstep...

thanks for the linky. I was being a bit on the sarcastic side, mainly meaning you type dubstep into youtube and get garbage beats. I deffo get my fix on the roots style I'm into. It's just funny to see a thread entitled...Dubstep
dude....ill track. That's what i'm talking about!
