everything is a statement. I don't understand the value of the advice beyond - if you don't believe in your music why are you bothering to make it. the author should find some examples of tracks that aren't statements. alternatively they should explain what they mean. thanks for sharing, but I don't get it.

I make my music more exciting by introducing changes, thinking about chords and melodies and making sounds that spark off images in my head. i also try to incorporate words and voice in there - so people have something to latch their feelings onto. playing loud helps, as does a PA that can transmit subbass.

Yeah, I can see what you mean, not entirely clear how it links to 'exciting', more how it connects to the listener. I thought he was pointing out that it has to be a strong statement that is said in such a way that the listener connects to it. I guess there really are plenty of tracks out there that dont grab the listener, or excite them. That doesnt mean that the producer wasnt trying to make a statement. But if the listener doesnt receive the statement then what does it really mean?

If a tree falls in the forest with no one to hear, does it make a sound? Pretty deeeep haha.

I think, from an artistic point of view the producer can do pretty much what he wants, but to be successful that creation has to connect with a certain number of listeners.

What kinda music do you make?
