getting a 2nd 'ghost' file when recording

a strange problem...

when i record audio into ableton, i see a 2nd file appear in the song's sound browser wondow...i'll get, for example '0002 3-track 3' which will contain the audio i've just recorded, and there'll also be a file called
'0003 3-track 3' after it. if i try to audotion the file, either nothing will happen, or it'll start playing a file that's listed as being 48794 minutes long that's completely blank. if i try to look at the file while in the finder it isn't listed, at least not in the folder it appears in in ableton's browser window. when i return to ableton from the finder it's disappeared from the browser window there as well.

if i try to delete it directly from the browser window i can't, and get an error message.

if i try to drag the file into an ableton track to try to figure out what it contains, it often can't be loaded; sometimes it loads but contains only silence. if i try to delete the track from the session view i get a message saying that i can't delete a track that's recording.

???

i'm running this on a g4 ibook running os10.3.8 and an m-audio firewire 410 interface. i don't think the problem's there, though...

weird ...any ideas ? some strange temp file ?

This file appears when you arm a track. The next recording goes
into it. The file remains unusable until recording has finished.
It is prepared in advance to reduce the delay when starting
a the recording. When you disarm the track, its removed.

Ralf
