I have tried numerous times to add Amplitude to my VST Plugins in Live. However, every time that I open Live, Amplitude is not there. Is anyone else having this problem?

works fine on mine,normal install into vst folder..maybe re scan the plugin folder

Live has an over-temperamental method of seeing if a plugin is OK or not.
I have a few plugins which just wont load in Live although they are fine in other (non cubase) hosts.

Live produces a log file which details which plugins it thinks are odd/ unusable , or it just cant figure out what to do with.
If it cant validate them as working VST/i 3 times (I think) it blacklists them and never tries to open them again until you re-install the plug-in!

its in the manual somewhere.

I have tried re-installing my problem plugins (which worked in Live a few months back) but it never recognizes them and I have had to use a wrapper !

Angstrom, which plug-ins do you have trouble with? It would help if you would share a little bit more details about your experiences. When you remove the plug-in from your VST folder, start Live again without the plug-in, quit Live, reinstall the plug-in into the VST folder and then scan again, Live will check the plug-in again.

Hi Frank,

The plugin that gave me the most trouble was actually on a friends machine, so I mailed him to ask for the log file, but he didnt have the relevant file anymore.

The plug-in in question was guitar-rig by Native instruments which my friend used in cubase, I wanted to show him how it might function with Live.
We installed the recent Live Demo and Guitar rig showed up as a VSTi and worked fine - he was impressed.
The next day I brought my laptop over to jam and he fired up his demo Live - but Guitar rig didn't show. I examined the log file and (as I remember) it read something like "guitar rig - fail" , not the usual message of "looks not like a vst plugin" .

He was not very happy about un-installing Guitar rig as it has a a complex registration procedure I think (and he is a guitarist ) So I simply removed the guitarrig.dll from the /steinberg/vstplugins/ folder , restarted the demo and re-scanned. Shut down the demo , pasted the guitarrig.dll back into the /vstplugins/ folder and re-started ... still not there, tried a re-scan, still nothing.

This took some time and we gave up on guitar rig and tried Amplitube and that plugin loaded fine.(ironically enough considering the thread title)

AFAIK : his machine: xp pro , 3.0 ghz CPU, Intel p4 , 1 gig of ram ... lots and lots of VST plugins.

I know there isn't much detail here, but hopefully it will help you a little.

Live would not scan Guitar Rig again if not something happened to the GuitarRig.dll file. I assume that something happened and that produced the incompability. I have no idea what might have happened, but I am sure GuitarRig.dll did change! After the change, of which nature or cause I can't speculate, Guitar Rig also stopped working. I think there is nothing special about that or any problem with Live. Or did he try GuitarRig after that in Cubase and it still worked there? I guess not.

At the time I installed a shareware VST host on his machine to try and find out if the plugin was still working at all.
GuitarRig loaded fine in there, but as he couldn't find the dongle/ hardware key for his Cubase so I cant say whether it worked there.

After I left his house he wisely rolled back his system and apparently it all works fine in Cubase now, although I haven't seen this for myself.

Whether it was something he did before I arrived , or I did in my copy/pasting of the dll ... who knows. Just part of the magic of computers & musicians

I dont have GuitarRig myself though so I cant try it out here, I quite liked the look of it, though it didn't make me into a better guitarist !
