Any Powerbook 2003 1Ghz owners here already, using Live?

Just curious about the performance. Maybe you can do the performance test posted earlier in this forum and then share it with us? :P

Warm regards,

I'm waiting for mine to arrive

Just sold my iBook 500 and ordered a loaded 867...

mike have you done the test under osx, is it possible that you could give us the same run down that you did with os9.2, but with osx

I will ASAP - in the middle of a project in os9 right now (I boot Jaguar about once a week...) Still waiting on Logic Audio to ship for X....

yeah, any word of Logic Audio(silver) shipping for X? i haven't heard anything. i know a few Big Box owners that are getting impatient.

Yeah, here's another angry big box owner... I know for sure that they're waiting, but on Jan. 2003 apple moves to OSX boot only computer, which means eMagic will HAVE to do that.
In the meantime, I've heard that platinum for osx is still crappy...

still haven't done the test yet...

but I agree - the sooner the better for Logic Audio... and word on if the EXSP24 will get the MKII revision like the EXS is (more filters!)

I can't really use it on X until one of two things happens:

They implement full rewire 2 or native instruments releases reaktor and kontakt for x

whichever happens first, I'll be on X full time.

Well, I finally got around to doing the test - results were pretty much the same as in OS9 - test 1 3%, test 2 28%

Overall I am extremely happy with my TiBook - just need to figure the audio in/out situation, and now that logic is on board, I need to figure out how to work at 48k sample rate (the sound manager asio won't play nicely...)

let me know if there are any other performance questions - I havent had a chance to put it through the paces yet, and would love to try and make it crawl :D

mikeweeks,

maybe you could do the platinumverb test in logic described at http://www.digitalnaturalsound.com/logi ... nfig.shtml - do you have a 867 PB? This is what I've ordered as well (but delivery has been delayed :x

and do you have kontakt? Is it true that it eats up lots of CPU on the mac?
cheers,
format

Just got the 867 last thursday... works like a charm. also waiting for the exsp24 to be released - I have 4 weeks to wait (exs24 ii demo...), but i'm exteeeeeemmly happy with this computer (I owned a 500 iBook, which i sold last month) - performance on jaguar with live+reason is PERFECT, emi 2|6 latency is 6ms (!!!) with no hickup, logic audio for osX is nice, but still feels like a beta (No audio units yet, no esxp, no evp73)
live runs like a frickin' champ. I can't wait for the v2 upgrade.
meanwhile just in case - I've imported most of my extreme analog wavs into reason's sampler (NN19) - you guys should try it...

Format - I can't do the platinumverb test as I don't have the platinum verb  , just using Logic Audio.

And yes - I do have kontakt and it is a little rough on the CPU when using alot of voices with excessive effects/envelope/modation. Nothing that hinders me too badly, but might for someone who relies on Kontakt. Standalone works VERY well though -

Anyone here running Live under Jaguar with an iBook 700? I get snap, crackle, and pop when playing with effects. Latency is set at the default 12ms for the internal sound card. I have the same problems using an M-Audio Quattro. Everything runs great under 9.2.2, though. I just really, really like Jaguar for other stuff (programming, etc).

/S

I wasn't satisfied with the new PB's *power* at all, which is why I didn't buy it in the end. I reckon Ableton's support for Altivec is, sadly, not anywhere near where it should be  ---- from what I can tell, performance of the Ti867 would have to be rated lower than that of a similarly rated Pentium chip.
