Notes Snap

Hi, i'm new here and pretty new to Ableton so hopefully this will be an easy question to answer.
I've seen in videos on youtube and sites like that, people who are creating a drum beat start tapping pads on there controllers and they start with a bass drum and add in all their cymbals and stuff. But when you look at their computer, the notes that they play are always a little to short or a little off the grid but ableton magically lines them to the grid and makes them the correct length. When I play, the notes are always to short or off beat and i'm always having to move them and stretch them to size manually with the mouse. How to I fix this?
Thanks

Hi,
I think the feature you're looking for is called "quantization"

yeh go to

edit/record quantisation/pick what you want

as far as note length though, for that yer s.o.l., you just have to hold longer or fix em after....

Record quantization is an automatic quantization of the first part of your notes to whatever resolution, which happens at recording time. You can undo it after the recording with the undo command (the recording and quantization are two separate events).

There is also a manual quantize option, and a corresponding option to quantize with parameters - how much to quantize, and whether to quantize the beginnings or endings of notes.

Ctrl/Cmd-Shift-U

I like 85%, a good medium between fixing bad slop and keeping it human.

gold star for the hotkey!

but is that the global quantisation or the post-rec touchup quantisation?...i see it only works in clip view so im thinking the latter...

im asking, not telling...i think going thru edit menu sets global for midi and audio, is this correct?

Edit menus for Global Record Quantization and the shortcuts for the clips.

Slap that bitch on my forehead!
