Can anyone recommend a virtual sampler that works well with Live 4?
ie. really stable, no annoying 'issues'!

Does it HAVE to be virtual?

If so, I've heard nothing but good things about Mach5, not sure how it goes with Live. But a lot depends on the type of sampling you wanna do.. one shots? Full instruments? Mangling?

Yes it does have to be virtual, and I'm only really interested in hearing about samplers that people have had a good experience with in Live!

Would be grateful for any more suggestions. Don't seem to be having a great time with Halion3..?!

The NN-XT in Reason will probably do what you want.

You could invest in one of those EMU cards which have a sampler built in and allow control via VSTi interface... I cant imagine anything more stable than real DSP/hardware...

Kontakt 1.5 is a blast to play with and allow you to quickly mangle samples... the only peeve I have with it is that sometimes it can be a little confusing to determine routing, envelopes etc just by looking at a patch... so sometimes you really have to roll up your sleaves to dig down and see what is going on. With some UI improvements coming at the end of the month v2 will likely be that much better.

I would suggest staying away from Intakt/Kompakt as they are both dumbed down versions of Kontakt...

If you're looking more of a drum/pad based sampler, I swear by Battery and Battery 2.

For something different and in the fun realm... Cameleon can load samples and turn them into Additive Synth patches... I have used this to great effect many times when I have had a loop I really like the sound of, and been able to pull apart the samples and create a patch out of the individual hits... it can sound much more natural than the time stretching that you get from traditional samplers. Of course the sound will get altered/colored quite often... but it can leave interesting sounds regardless... and then you aren't as limited as you were when you had the loop.

I can recommend the EMU E-5000 -- but it's hardware..... I would sell one for a good price... think about it: It NEVER crashes!
