Hi.
1. For newbies it is recomended to follow the Live Tutorials, inside Live.
You will learn a lot quicker from those, then us trying to explain it with pure text only. Untill you have learned the basics, the tutorials are your best friend. And keep the manual open the first weeks. ;)

2. A little tip: Writing in ALL CAPS means screaming on internet forums. If you want help quickly, I recomend not using caps lock.

Good luck! :)

There are a couple of threads like that right now. I wonder if some new torrent just opened up or what. Hard to imagine people are spending all this money on software without having given even a cursory glance at a manual or some tutorial videos.

Then again, maybe everyone's trying out the demo and asking about that.

The all caps folks are usually coders typing from work, simply forgeting to turn it off. But it does occationally happen that someone thinks its a good idea for a question. 8O :|

Hey Mr. Baily people are pretty brudal in this formum when you ask these types of questions lol. Time will only get you better in ableton. Well make sure you mastered how to warp if you wanna throw a acapella over a beat. I suggest making two audio channels. Start warping the vocals where the beat hits in the original song. This could take a while depending how long the track is. Then test your "beat" with the vocal itself. Also make sure your bpm is true to what ableton has it (or close to) after your warping is done. If you want to change the bpm do it on the top left corner in the global bpm.
If you want to sample parts of the track on your midi keyboard I suggest using Sampler.

bear in mind all that we just cleared christmas. Expect a whole slew of kiddies who's parents hooked em up with some hot software to make them a superstar dj/remixer/music maker. :)

Oh! Hadn't thought of that. Makes sense.

Anyway, now that we've all had the chance to vent over this kind of thing, it occurs to me that this video from Ableton Cookbook about warping acappellas might be useful here. As someone else said, too, the built-in tutorials (under help -> help view) are quite good and go pretty fast, and should probably be considered 'required reading' since they explain the fundamentals really well.
