Hi all, I'm new to live as a sequencer and love the set up.

I have a few newb questions I'm hoping someone would be kind enough to answer.

1. Is there any way I can change pitch bend parameters for a sound I want to alter with my controller wheel? I like to use the wheel sometimes for fifth's sometimes for octaves but I can't find where to change that.

2. Is there any way of creating layered snare sounds to be saved in live's library for later use? I am making kits with impulse and layering the kits and saving them but I'm hoping I can save some time sequencing by having access to the pre-layered snares.

3. When adding midi events manually like a run of high hats is there anyway of changing the default that the events are added with zero velocity? It's a bit of a pain to have to dig each one out with the mouse at the bottom to a reasonable level.

I'll try to help you out here.

1. Can't help you with that.

2. Once you have your layered snare sound, make a MIDI clip triggering that sound. Launch the clip (just that one), and choose the render option. Live will then render the clip to an audio file. Then just copy the rendered audio to your sample collection.

3. Select all the midi notes for which you would like to change the velocity, and then drag the velocity levels up or down. They should all change together. You can also change the velocity level of your instrument to a prefered level, and then tweak the individual notes one by one for some variation. Also, if you want all your notes to play at a certain velocity, you can also use the Velocity MIDI device.

Billdesman is right, but I have some additions:

1. This should be set up in each instrument individually. Usually you'll find a "PB range" control in the Pitch section of the instrument (Sampler for example). From here I am not sure, if every Live instrument has this option, just take a look.

2. You can layer your sanre inside an instrument rack and save those into the library, if you do not want to render the sound. Both, the sound as audio and the rack have advantages and disadvantages.

3. If you draw the notes in, you can also hold the mouse button and "drag" the velocity. Usually, Live uses the last used velocity for the next note then.

I have now run into another related problem in that I can't find where to make live remeber ptch bend as midi information. I and bend the notes alright but upon playback no bend.. any thoughts?

Problem seems to be with the particular patch i was using. Bends being recorded now.
