If I save a track, will it open up on other systems and match the settings that were used (if the system has the same software)?

If you go File-->Collect and Save, you can copy the project folder and it should have everything necessary to play on another machine with the same software installed.

so I can go back and forth between two systems, doing File-->Collect and Save each time?

Yeah, if you collect and save, it will make sure all audio etc are in the project folder. A friend and I work on the same projects and that is what we do. The first couple of times, it might be an idea to validate just to make you feel at ease, but it does work!
