altering buffer + plugin gui focus = no qwerty note input

can anyone replicate this?
8.2.8b2 (but i've seen this behaviour pretty much since Live 8 came out, just never put 2 and 2 together)
mbp quad i7
open up a new live set and launch any vst synth. activate the 'computer MIDI keyboard' icon.
plays fine here, and you can mess with the gui knobs and still play. all good.
but what if the vst is a cpu hog and the audio starts to sputter? alter the buffer size.
but if i change the buffer here, the vst stops responding to the qwerty notes. you have to click on Live to give it the focus for it to respond again. kind of a pain when writing on just the laptop, having to keep switching the focus back and forth between the vst gui and Live when you want to tweek a knob and hear the result...
