Ableton and M-Audio/WDM drivers?

Hi!
I got a question concerning Live and M-Audio soundcards with WDM drivers. Does anyone know whether the Audiophile series is supposed to work with Live (version 1.5) on XP? I jsut bought the soundcard, but it doesn't work properly with Live; there are always some cracking noises to be heard when I use it in the ASIO mode. All my other programs (Cubase Sx etc.) work perfectly well with the card. Could it be that Live doesn't support WDM drivers. I once read an article concerning this problem.
Anyone got a solution for this problem????
Thanks for answering

I have the same question; I'm using the Studio Pack with the Delta R-bus .26 drivers. Latency in Live is 44 ms. before breakup; in SONAR it is around 7 or 8 with WDM drivers; around 26 with MME drivers...

Hello,
Live doens't support "WDM" in the way Sonar is doing it. What Sonar does is to access the WDM audio driver directly. But as far as I know no other audio application than Sonar can do that. (or does anybody knows another audio application?) The reason why Live and other audio applications are not doing that is just that the interface for that is not really public.
There are some information about but not in the kind of an normal, documented SDK (software development kit). Just some days ago Microsoft published a "White paper" related to this issue.
Currently it's not clear if we'll support the direct "WDM" access some day. I would suggest that Microsofts tries to improve the DirectSound interface (or to create a new interface) compareable to Apple's CoreAudio on OS X. In that case the direct WDM access would be obsolete. But who knows...-:)
Hope that makes the "WDM" issue a bit clearer.

Alex

carl what multitracker do you use besides live, like Sonar logic cubase, I read that you are not having any problems with your audiophile card do to the fact that you use the asio drivers, but what about using live in conjunction with your multitracker?, or does your multitracker use asio also and have you experienced any problem using them both simotaneously?
thanks

I had this same problem with the MAudio Quatro box, I could never get the ASIO drivers to work, and eventualy gave up on the WDM drivers to work without crackles and glitches, have now gone to a presonus firestation and have had some luck with it.

Hi Ludingtongt,
What exactly means "I had this same problem with the MAudio Quatro box"?
You can not use it at all by getting an error message or do you get always crackles and glitches in the audio?
Which platform and operating system you're using?

Alex

Strange...i got absolutely NO problems with my Delta ASIO drivers and i´m down to 4ms.
But I can´t handle my EMI 2/6

Same cracks and glitches as you describe. Nothing under 20 ms will work.
So i think you have some problems with the hardware (change/check it in a good Store) or you system (reinstall with Live only).

Hi Alkanesh,
if you using the EMI on Win2000 or Win XP you can do the this:
1) Please create a text file called "Options.txt" in the ".../ableton/Live 2.0.1/preferences" folder if it still doesn't exist there.
2) Open this file and add the line "-AsioSupportProcessNow=1" and save the file.
3) If you start Live now it should be possible to get smaller latencies than 20ms with the EMI.

Alex

Hi ... thanks for the tip with the text file to get better EMI performance.
But...the problem is not solved yet.
It is possible to set latency under 20 ms now, but it crackles and makes noise regardless how much files loaded.
Is this a problem of the EMI, Live or the fact i use a PC ?
Hell...gimme a Multiface

Layla ASIO snap, crackle, pop worse in 2.0.1 than 1.52

Alex,
I saw you post above suggesting this for an EMI card:
"if you using the EMI on Win2000 or Win XP you can do the this:
1) Please create a text file called "Options.txt" in the ".../ableton/Live 2.0.1/preferences" folder if it still doesn't exist there.
2) Open this file and add the line "-AsioSupportProcessNow=1" and save the file.
3) If you start Live now it should be possible to get smaller latencies than 20ms with the EMI."
What about for other soundcards? Is that only for the EMI?
I am having similar snap, crackle, pop problems with an Echo Audio Layla24 card using the WDM-ASIO drivers. If I run my laptops internal consumer-quality soundcard with its WDM sound drivers, I don't get any snap, crackle, pop.
I also have no problems with the Echo Layla at the lowest latency settings using Reason, Cubase SX, Acid, etc.
thanks
