simulate decay envelope with midi instrument

Hello,
I'm using Ableton Live to control an array of LED boxes. One "mode" for the project is "playing" the light boxes with a MIDI controller, e.g. C1 corresponds to one box.
What I'd like to do is set up some sort of decay envelope for the MIDI data. This could be sent as MIDI CC or note on/note off data. Basically, you'd hit C1 and the velocity (or controller value) would decay to 0 from the initial velocity.
This could be implemented on my LED system itself, but it's running off of an Arduino and a Processing application and I'm hesitant to put anything processor-intensive on that end of things (handling the fade of many notes, etc.). What I'd like to do is set this up on the Ableton end of things.
I'm pretty sure this could be done easily through Max for Live, but I unfortunately don't have that (yet). Can anyone think of another way to do this?
Any help is much appreciated.
