Overlapping wav files

Hi guys.
Can anyone put me straight with this please.
In my other DAW (Tracktion) I can put 2 wav files on the same track and if I drag the start of one over the end of the other I can create a fade between the two.
In Live if I do this it shortens the first wav file.
I've been getting round it by putting the files on separate tracks and setting the fades independently so is the way it's done?
Ta guys
Dave

yep.

you can also put them on different sides of the crossfader, then draw in one envelope for the crossfader curve and bounce to a new track.
