Ableton Forum

i run maschine on a mac and notice that it turns off when i put my computer to sleep, but when i shut down the computer it won't turn of. do i have to unplug the usb port everytime i shut down? i'm extremely new to maschine and am still learning ableton . thanks for any help.

I usually unplug mine or just shut my whole computer down. It's a pain, I know. I called them to complain.

What's wrong with unplugging it?

There's nothing "wrong" with unplugging it, but there are several advantages to a switch. The primary one for me is that if I unplug things, the cords have a tendency to slip behind the back of my desk.

Not sure on macs but on my pc within the bios you can deselect "power to usb during off state". Then usbs wont have power on them for charging etc....and also wont leave maschine powered

That's a good lead, grandpa. I wonder if I can do it on my USB hub? Hmmmm.....

Has a power button on the rear panel. Works great.

And for only $500 more than an MK2, you can get a power switch

There are a handful of other features but really the power button makes it worth the price difference alone.

FYI, this switch is not working for me. The MK2 gets power, and turns on/off, but it won't send or receive MIDI. Niether Ableton nor Maschine 2 in standalone will recognize the unit if the switch is in the circuit path. But when I disconnect the switch, and plug in the MIDI cable to MK2 as usual, then it works just fine.

Oh well!

Thats to bad, it looked promising. I am a little worried about the ware-n-tare I am putting on Maschine's usb port just to turn it off.

If you read the product description on that web page, it specifically says "The data lines are not connected through - this is a ground/5V power switch only!" So, no, your computer will not recognize the Maschine hardware if that switch is in the USB path. Too bad - looks like a useful solution otherwise.
