Audio part 'glitchy' when rendered to disk

Hello all, newbie Live user here, hope you can help my problem.
I have Live and Reason as a slave. I've got one track in Live playing back some bass guitar my mate recorded, and another track routing through some drums and stuff from Reason. The track sounds fine when being played back, but as soon as I render it to disk the audio bass part goes really glitchy.
I'm pretty sure this is because the bass was recorded in a very basic way, and it maxes out quite a bit giving a distorted sound. But the weird thing is that it's OK when played back, but only goes 'glitchy' when rendered to disk.
I tried going back and lowereing the volume of both tracks, and re-rendering but it still comes out glitchy. Any hints I can use or do I just have to get my mate to re record his bass part?
