Panning amplitudes :S

So I have a 2 hi-hats going (The hi hats are exactly the same. one is panned 50R and the other 50L, both from the Ableton instrument rack). Both volume levels are set to exactly 0. When looking at the volume meters, the one on the left is almost double that of the one panned right. One thing in particular that I've changed (but I don't see why it would be an issue) is within the instrument editing options itself. Under the multi-sampling mode label (the area where one can edit the ADSR of the volume, pitch and filter of the particular instrument etc) I've changed the panning measures so that the hi hat panned 50 right also has a setting of 50R and the hi hat panned left has a setting of 50L. I've duplicated the hi hat (the L one) and edited its settings to be 50R but the volume still drops by 50%. Does this have to do with how our right ear has some sort of difference in how it takes in sound so ableton automatically accounts for these differences? If not I hope someone can help me with this! Any feedback is greatly appreciated! Thanks!
