I accidentaly walked past there several times and saw the sign.... good old Schönhauser Allee... how much it's changed! I remember it from the days of just after the Wall came down, with illegal pubs and all of the streets and buildings being dark, run-down, East Block, communism-style....
From outside, you just see a smart, stylish office building.

ok... so Ableton HQ may not be the Willy-Wonker-esque wonderland i'm imagining in my dreams...

so next question is...

where should i be visiting in Berlin?

or probably equally as important... where shouldn't i go?

I don't want to be one of those backpacker types getting dragged along to crap mainstream places...

I was also in Berlin as a teenager before the Berlin Wall came down. Visiting West Berlin at that time was a pretty cool experience but looking over that wall towards East Berlin was down right the most scariest ghost town Ive ever seen period. Seriously. It makes me wonder where the Ableton headquarters is actually located east or westside of Berlin. I would definitely go there just find the location out of curiosity.

If your going at the start of the summer, bring some coffee for the coders
Around that time last year they where working hard on getting Live 4 out there.

I think it's the love parade around that time. so if your bored and horny.......
Lots of great festivals too in Germany. (nature one, green and blue, timewarp,......)

12miscn1,
The Ableton HQ are located in the former Eastern part. They're not too far from the Volksbühne theatre (check out the Roter Salon to the left of the main entrance!) and Alexanderplatz, the "centre" of Berlin in GDR times. This square is a fascinating sight of its own.... you can still feel a real Honecker / Stasi vibe there, although that's vanishing too... This is my main reason for finding Berlin less and less interesting .... the atmosphere of the former east is disappearing in favour of malls, McDs and the like... but it's good too because it is becoming more colourful. The former East as I remember it was very dark and very grey, but all the more interesting for it.

am,

check out Kreuzberg, and the Eastern neighbourhoods Prenzlauer Berg and Friedrichshain... they're very interesting. And try and get on an "illegal party" mailing list to see where those take place.... they're great.
