The hell you do! Learn Python the Hard Way was written specifically for people with no programming experience, and Stanford CS 101 starts up again in just a few weeks. Finish those and you'll be more than prepared for Google Python Class, or to pick up a book and dig into whatever language you like. You'll also be ready to start building simple versions of your own ideas, contributing to open source projects—doing the real shit that someone hiring a programmer actually cares about.

You decide how much work you're willing to put in, and by extension what you're "ready" for. You don't have to wait for the people you're paying to finish teaching you how to write VB macros.

Oracle DBA

(I hate technology....I am trapped...seduced by money and the desire for stupid electronic things that go bloop and bleep....music is a hobby...I cant quit doing....)

You CS kids....quit now...before it is too late...just because it is interesting and you are good at it is not a reason to make a career of dealing with the crap I had to deal with....the sheer terror of hardware failures, idiotic users and crazed "I can do anything I want programmers" managed by displaced, mentally deficient managers.

Quit now....go to the beach, sell t-shirts, sling cocktails...you will be immeasurably happier.

Pro audio content writer. Been at it for the last five years. If it wasn't for words like "enables" "empowers" "integrated" and "algorithms," I'd be out of a job.

Write something about summing busses. You've seen the topics in the main forum, right? People would religiously kill each other, over whether Katy Perry sounds better through Live or Pro Tools.
