Can I delete the old App files

Hi All,
I'm trying to clean up my computer and every time a new Ableton edition comes out I just drag the new file into my 'Application' folder. So over time I've managed to accumulate multiple copies of ableton in my application folder.
I'd rather be safe than sorry, so I thought I should ask - Can I delete the old App files after I put the new Ableton file into my application folder? Will this affect my loops, plugins or effects?
Thanks,
Jedwards

Yes. I've been doing it this way and have had no problems.
If you feel more comfortable, just drag your oldest app to the trash and open the newest Live.
If all is good, which it will be, then continue this until they are all gone but the most recent..
When you download the latest version of Live, all of your Preferences are carried forward with the new app. ( Just make sure you open the newest app so that all the Prefs are brought forward before deleting oldert versions.)
As you discard the old apps, the prefs. remain. Hope that helps.

ANYTHING you need deleted (if your on a mac anyway) is this:
1. rename the file you want deleted "remove.rtf" save it
2. Open the text-edit app (dont open up the file you just named remove.rtf)
3. click file, go to save as and save the document as remove.rtf. Note: save it in the same place as your original file, that way it will basically replace the text file
4. then you can delete the file with no problem..
Anyways i hope this helps!

why but why someone would go to the hassle of doing this when one can just select and press apple+backspace or right click and move to trash?

I'm sorry, maybe I'm missing something. Your post has nothing to do with the thread.
What exactly are you trying to do or you didn't understand what the thread poster was questioning?
