Ableton supports after touch. If you record a midi clip and put pressure on the keys, then look in to automation envelopes, you will see that channel pressure automation has been recorded.

Some instruments do something with the channel pressure data out of the box. But, most Ableton instruments don't (if any).

I want to map channel pressure to a a Macro inside an instrument rack so I can automate a parameter with After Touch. Is this possible? I guess the real question is how to manually edit the midi mapping in the mapping editor to include channel pressure.

This would greatly enhance Live's instrument rack functionality. The same thing goes for sustain pedals etc. that can be connected to your keyboard so can use your foot to automate stuff.

Yeah, I think that's what I am talking about.

However, I want to know how I can do this in Ableton. From what I can tell, Ableton is completely automated, if you go to midi map mode and then send a CC to it, it automatically maps to that CC. That's fine for most cases, but when you want after touch, it's impossible because you have to hit a note before the after touch kicks in, and Ableton maps to that note and not the after touch.

Really, what needs to happen is that I need to be able to in to the midi mapping and edit the number of the CC that is coming in to ableton manually.

I would have thought that this would be a standard feature. I assumed that in any DAW you'd be able to edit the mappings manually so you can allow any CC to modulate any parameter. Am I barking up the wrong tree here? Is this a feature I should be requesting?

i'm also looking to midi map aftertouch.
in my case, using an akai mpd32, i want to be able to use aftertouch to automate send levels, for example.
seems like it should be easy enough to do. can't find anything about it in the Live manual, or on this board.
it is called Ableton LIVE, right? we should be able to control live performance data, no?

If you know the cc of the aftertouch, you could use another control and give it the same cc (and channel) so Live reads it...

I'm pretty sure aftertouch is not a standard assignable cc.
