Newbie has a question:
I have downloaded a VPS plug-in, unzipped it and moved the files to a directory "VPSplugins" In Live's preferences I have made reference to this directory and scanned it. Nothing shows up in the program, and when I choose "View" and "Windows plug-ins" it is greyed out. Apart from .txt and PDF files there's only a .dll file which I suspect is the file containing the data, which means there is no installation required for the plug-in. How do I proceed to make it work in Ableton Live lite (Or is there a limitation for this version?

What windows version?
Under win7 you can save under Program Files = 64bits and Program Files(X86)= 32bits.

In Win7 64 bit it's best to always install VSTs in a folder outside of C:\Program Files... because this is a folder that needs administrator rights to modify anything in it. Some VSTs don't like this for some reason.

The best thing to do is to make a folder in the ROOT of C:\ such as C:\VstPlugins and put everything there. Always use that ONE folder and nothing else. Live only allows you choose ONE Custom VST folder (unless you add shortcuts in the VstPlugins folder, which works but it makes Live take longer to start up).
When the VST has an installer make sure you change the path to where it wants to be installed to YOUR VstPlugins folder and not where IT wants to go. When it's a simple VST that's just a .DLL you can just put the file in the VstPlugins folder yourself.
In Live's Options-Preferences choose C:\VstPlugins as your VST Plug-In Custom Folder.
