I am trying to figure out a good set up for live looping a guitar using multiple loopers on different tracks. My idea is to have an audio in channel as a monitor, and then arm additional tracks with a looper on each track. The loopers would be set input->output as "never." The idea is to set loopers with different lengths, and different effects to create whole scenes within which I can improvise.

One question concerns setting up midi foot controls for this. I would like to set one pedal for the multifunction button of the looper, and then another pedal to select the track (e.g. up or down). Is this possible? I have seen set-ups with separate pedals assigned for each looper.

Also, I have seen the method of using multiple loopers within a single effects rack. I do not see any advantage of this, but maybe I am missing something?

I would be very interested for comments on these, and general advice about effective set-ups. I am happy to share Live Set files to work with and improve this. I am using the KMI soft step as a foot pedal to control Ableton.

Perhaps you can do more by programming the controller cleverly than doing so within Live.

Does the controller give you options to up and down select midi channels or controller schemes?

i had a solution that i thought worked for this but i realized it doesn't behave as i first thought it did. i am going to play around some more and get back to you on this..

sorry, i kinda made a mess of this. it seems someone actually read my first reply before i realized my mistake. lol. my original reply was essentially this:

"if you assign the first button to both the large circle record button on the looper effect AND to the play button above that, you will end up with one button that funtions as RECORD/PLAY/OVERDUB/PLAY in behavior. the next button would be assigned to clear, and the third button would be to the track record buttons to arm/disarm each of the tracks. "

but that isn't entirely true.. the first press of the button will start recording, the second press will put you into overdub mode, the third stops playback and the fourth plays the loop (which is the same behavior as if you only made one controller assignment for the big button). i just wanted to clear up the chain of events... blah.
