The Greatest Voice of All

She really was one of the greatest voices of all time. Very sad.

Back in the 80's I took some dance lessons and dancing to this track is by far the most memorable.

The first thing I think about is, drugs can get the best of anyone. Really have to feel for people in that way. Very sad.

The second thing is how the era Whitney Houston made music in might affect her long term legacy. A peerless vocal talent, in an over produced pop/R&B era. Imagine someone of her astounding talent in the 60's Motown era, or Philly Soul era of the 70's. Or even today, compare the creative environment & collaboration that Adele, Cee Lo, or the late Amy Winehouse was able to benefit from musically.

Lastly, the way cable news & social networking sites allow people both an opportunity to grieve, but also self aggrandize. Everyone's a fan...

That's not my opinion, but Levi's from previous posts. Check out the why is this forum more active on weekdays thread in the Lounge. It is an extremely narrow minded pov.

but junkies know they flirt with death, addicts know they hurt others, and they know they have a choice to do these things or not. They are just stubborn, narrow minded people with a since of entitlement that enjoys the company of enablers.

It's like when they found that guy from Alice in Chains, and people were all sad, but the truth was nobody found him for over a week. Not because people didn't love the guy, but because he chose to be alone.

I never cared much for Whitney's brand of top 40, but I did a lot of drugs thats fer sure.

The sad thing is she had a voice that shined regardless of her brand of pop. I don't think she could have existed in any other era without putting this talent at risk. Now a days lots of people are so overproduced that most people say that Whitney's era will never be recreated because simply nobody believes anymore that artists are singing talents. Pop has morphed the "vocalist" to an effect ridden track on a song that can be manipulated to anyones liking at any time. Now granted I am a bit of the pot calling the kettle black since it is how I make my mark on the world...but it still leaves me somewhat disheartened when I think of some of the classics from her era and before.

Either way, her mark will never be tarnished. Most will remember her voice and songs and voice long past her addictions.
