Anyone using a phono preamp?

Hi,
I figured some of the DJ/Sample click might be able to help me out here.
I've recently dusted of an old Dual turntable/pickup and have started buying obscure records to sample from. Now I need a decent phono preamp to connect it to my M-Audio Omni i/o.
I'm considering the NAD PP2 @ € 99,- which seems like a decent unit, or
the ART Deejay Pre @ € 39,- which seems like a decent brand, but don't know for sure about this particular unit.
Any experiences with the above mentioned units/brands?
Any other suggestions?
Or would you recommend an affordable DJ mixer instead of a seperate phono pre?

I've read some more negative comments on the web about them too.

Here's an interesting audiophile website focused on phono products.
They recommend DJ Mixers as inexpensive phono preamps.
I have recorded thousands of records through a DJ mixer and it works quite well.

Typically the phono pre-amps in dj mixers will be low quality - along with additional circuitry that is not likely to help that much.

"Typically"? What's a typical DJ mixer? Radio Shack or Rane?

Well, at the equivalent price of a stand-alone phono pre-amp.

as a shop tech for a pro sound company i've worked with every major brand of mixer and phono-pre, and the cleanest, best sounding phono pre amp is made by Rane.
there are many on the market, and they all sound different

not true
and especially not true if you're using a VCA mixer where none of the audio signal passes through the actual channel fader
