random sample loader for live

Hello Everyone Ive been thinking about creating a simple plug-in app that would work with ableton live.

what it does and how it works

The user chooses number of columns and number of rows ( basic layout of ableton live grids )

Then it auto populates each grid space randomly with a sample from the sound pool.

The sound pool is a single folder filled with samples.

Now this is just in theory. I'm looking at creating a app that would perform this basic concept. any suggestions would be helpful. Even a text based script thats runs while live is running would be fine to.

Thanks

You can already do that(and much more) with Sampler.

Loading isn't easy. Random play back from a preloaded pool is. Here's 3 methods.
1) drag a folder of samples into sampler. Go to sample selector and set it to distribute ranges equally. Go to lfo 2 or 3, set the wave to random and the destination to sample selector 100%. Set retrigger and rate to what ever works.
2) drag a folder of samples onto drum rack. Put a random midi device before it and set it to have a really big range in random mode.
3) drag loads of samples into a track and set them all to loop and any, choose a good interval

Right and zone select in sampler. But loading or what he first asked isnt possible without max4live or a script. Plus I am guessing he wants to set up a random grid for launchpad or mpc style stuff.
For that I would go with Drum Rack, samplers and what oddstep said above in 1 or 2. And search for "Drum Racks Diesel" that loaded stuff randomly from a folder into 25 drum racks I believe.
