operator is perfect for pulsating drones/pads

max for live: robert henke's grain freeze and the granulator open the doors to sonic landscapes.


easy ambient pads: live's reverb with very long tails, hit the freeze button.

paulstretch and crystal have been mentioned...thatll keep you busy for a few years, lol

Reaktor Player from NI is free, theres a free Space-somethingaruther plug thats very nice

also, for Simpler...from Togeo Studios there are 4 free abLive packs called Dreamscapes, good startoff point for some ambient sound design

Thanks all for the feedback Im going to give em all a crack!! Just started using ableton and maschine, only a beginner but starting to get my head around things... Some would say obsessed at the moment!!

I will suggest paulstretch too. I think it will be able to satisfy your requirement. Inform whether it has helped or not.

Sorry for slow reply...Yes Paul Stretch is nice... Find it makes some great soundscapes using classical music especially:-)

If you have the suite, collision & tension are perfect for ambient stuff.

No suite but I do have maschine and there is some nice stuff on that! Thought I would probably double up on a few things if I also got suite...

Try Chimera - it's not always stable in Live (like many SynthMaker based plugins, or is it SynthEdit) but produces some lovely textures. Safer to create textures then freeze tracks.
