Thinking of getting an APC40....can it do this....?

Hi all,

I am looking for a MIDI controller to control a live performance set (8 channels with an effects rack on each basically) and like the look of the APC40

From what I can see, because of the way you have to focus a track to get control of the effects, it doesnt look like its possible to use the rotaries to effect 2 channels at once...lets say as the most basic example, if I wanted to low pass down one track whilst at the same time high passing one up.

Can it be done?

Thanks

It can be done. You can map the top bank of faders, and they will be assigned in just the rack you assign, so you can have 4 racks of custom mapped faders going wherever you want.

Hi, thanks a lot for the reply

I cant get my head around that, would you mind giving some more detail?

I plan on having the same rack of effects on every track. Lets say:
Low pass, high pass, delay, phase, enormous reverb.

So Id like the flexibility of being able to:

a) On the same track ramp up the reverb AND the highpass for example and gradually reduce each effect until the track is introduced

or b) as I said before, to quickly "grab" 2 different tracks simultaneously and put a different effect on both

Sorry if this seems dim, just want to understand before I go spending ;)
Thanks alot

It'll take some mapping, but you should be able to do what you're looking for with an APC40

You'll need to look into hanz_petrovs remote script or click below if you have m4l to see what can be achieved with the APC40.... You can hard map anything you like but you'll lose the standard functionality when you do...

Cheers

what you are describing is similar to something I do with my dj setup. I have my same EQ rack set up in all four of my "decks" (tracks) and I assign highs mids and lows all to my "track control" part of my apc40. Just a simple midi map will map whatever specific controls you need to use. So if you have a delay you want on one specific track and a flange on another you just map em to the 8 knobs and you can control multiple ones. Now you are obviously limited 8 specific effects at the same time...so you kind of need to be choosy. Also you need to turn off "select on launch" because this may trigger ableton to select that specific track and throw you off from what you had selected before (usually only a pita if you are DJing".
