...if you have been avoiding the bitwig threads.....

from Ab HQ...

It seems to me that we're not doing anything differently than Bitwig. Just like them, we spend a lot of time working on the next version (the first in their case), and when we feel we're ready, we announce it and then it takes a little while before the actual release. For 3 years, Bitwig said no word about what their software would do, just like Ableton has always done. I see little difference here!

Believe me, we're not asleep! A lot of us would just love to tell you guys about Live 9, because it will be a kick-ass release. It's a little frustrating for us as well, but that's the game. On the other hand, Bitwig just announced their software, which they've been working hard on for a long time, so it's only fair that they get their share of attention now.

However you're right on one point: we do welcome competition! We've been sitting alone in our market segment for a very long time, and there's nothing better than competition to wake you up and release the good creative energy, and boy do we have that in store! We're very much looking forward to competing on features, user benefit and innovation, but please bear with us if we choose not to play the Internet-buzz game, because it's not in our values and we're working hard on stuff that matters instead.

Let's wait for Bitwig Studio to be released, and may the best product win!

Carl

I can just imagine the post that was replying to.

"Why don't you have new software like bitwig? Why don't you care about your customers like bitwig? Why does bitwig do stuff that ableton doesn't? What do you do all day?"

Jajaja, the funny thing is that the Bitwig team is nearly mute. I've subscribed to the mailing list and I haven't received a single email!

I dont care about fanboy wars, I really love Live, but regarding all this, I find interesting that Bitwig will be Linux compatible, my hope is that Live 9 will be more Linux friendly, a native version will be cool.

This is how I think Live9, or rather Ableton in general could smash it Big time, not only make it linux compatible. But make some sort of ASIO standard for Linux/Win/OSX that was as easy as it is now ASIO/Core Audio. This would not only bring in a legion of new users, but the competition would shit their pants. I'm a bit out of touch with linux & as much as I loved it, it was too geeky to set up for professional audio, maybe it has changed now but it was not the case a year or 2 ago. Then again, maybe it does not matter as much now as OSX & Win Daws are running pretty efficiently now.

Why would they want to do that exactly? and who would get excited? Sorry but if this was a big announcement, a re-invented wheel, it would drive me to watch more television.
