DJM 900 NEXUS - SETTING THE TEMPO

Im running Ableton into my DJM 900 Nexus and separately using the mixer's effects on a mic as well a turntable used for scratching.
The problem is that I need the midi effects to sync with ableton and the only way I have found to do this is using the DJM900 as the master. The issue with this is that it seems like the only way of controlling the tempo is via the DJM's tap tempo - surely there must be a better way than this.
Q1: Is it possible to get Ableton to control the tempo? and be the master. This would be ideal.
Q2: If this isn't possible, is there a way of controliong the tempo in the DJM900 via a dial of some kind? i.e. not via tap tempo
