So one day i opened up ableton to practice with the apc40 and when the project opens it sounded like 10 keys on the piano were hit at once and now every time i click on pretty much anything it makes the same noise. I notice that everytime i do that it shows a midi signal when its making the noise. I tried opening up a brand new project but after a little while it starts making the noise. Any ideas?

maybe you could use a midi monitor to see whats going on. if you have max for live you could use the max midi tester.

No i dont have max for live. I ended up reformatting shortly after that and i reinstalled it and everything and it wasnt making the noise for awhile. It just started again... I have no idea. I'll have to look into a midi tester then i guess.

But also right now, I don't even have the apc40 connected. I just opened the project and it starts making those noises right away.

Could it be a VST plugin you use a lot?

Yeah I checked all that and there is no VST open. Could it be something wrong with my hardware? I mean if I had this problem before and even after reformatting it coming up again makes me want to think hardware. But I really have no idea.

I once had a similar weird problem with a Novation 25Sl mkII. Turned out to be a wrong setting in the midi/remote control settings in Live. I had both selected it as a remote control device and activated it as 'remote' in the midi section below that. Caused some weird conflicts triggering all kinds of stuff in Live. Maybe you should check those settings. If you select it in the control surfaces section, deactivate the 'remote' button in the Midi section.

Is it a piano sound ?
Are you sure it comes from live ?
Any signal through the master level meters ?
Mac or Windows ?
