hey guys,

I just got a new laptop and have performed the live test on it. I get a crazy variation between 35-59% on speedstep.
This has got me a little worried.
It seems a little erratic for my liking(compared to my desktop)

This is what i have.

MSI M510c M1.8 CPU
1G Ram
DVDRW
Radeon 9700 64mb
80G HDD 5400rpm

Im yet to get a decent firewire sound interface as well.

If any of you have any tips on how to run this unit at optimum level id be more than grateful.

Cheers.

Set up a profile with absolutely no rubish in it, then when you use live boot to that profile and use another one for general use.

I also went to xpnet and followed some of the instructions to turning off unecessary things.

Should i uninstall anything ie - games etc?

Hell yeah - no games .
And have you set your power settings for the Centrino processor correctly also ?
Should be set to max CPU power always ON otherwise speed step will throttle down CPU .
Background devices should have priority also for audio work.
If you aren't using it on the net make sure all virus checker sortare is disabled also.
Your lappy should be screamin' in those tests.
My HT P4 lappy does 21% with a 23% peak at loop point on that test.
And your's should be as fast as mine easily.

ok cool ill piss the games off..

what ive done is gone into the bios and set it to speedstep... it was originally running at 600mhz, which i thought was odd but then read its an option to extend battery life.Sso now its at 1800mhz, at speed step.

Ive set it up to rip files off my desktop via my modem. So it has internet enabled.

Im an ametuer with this shit so i need all the help i can get, so my band can get on the road.

I appreciate your reply Fax :)
