Error when trying to open a mov, mp4 video in ableton

I am facing a problem when trying to open ANY video file (mov, mp4) in ableton 8.2.4. The videos do not appear in the files browser and when i try to open a video (file-->open live set) the following window pops up. "This document ... is corrupt, Unknown Compound stream file". I tried to open many videos to see if it is a problem with the specific video file, but the same happened with all of them. I also searched the internet and i didn't find a similar post anywhere. I think maybe there is something wrong with the codecs, but I am new in the area and i don't know much. I would be gratefull if someone could help me out, because i have this project about adding my own music to a 2min given movie and my deadline is on Wednesday. If you have any suggestions, it would help me a lot. Thanks!

update your Quicktime. Live uses it for some functions.

can you open videos in another application?
can someone else open them on their Live? could you post a short snippet of the video for us to try? I'll PM you my e-mail address if you'd like to send me something to try. I'll delete it afterwards.

Hi, every one, I am new to Ableton Live, and I'm facing the same problem, I need to put a video in some way in to Live 8 so I can match the music with it, I don't want to master or edit the video only use as a reference, I changed the format of the video using different codecs but still same problem, Ableton Live can't find it in the browser and if I click and drag in to the track give me error.
any help much appreciated.

i had the same problem and after some fiddling and some talks with the techsupport we figured out that it was because was set in a quicktime container, but still using an esoteric codec, so my guess is that you have re-encode the file and the container. that's what solved it for me a anyways.

OP sent me his file, I was able to open it but only after getting a warning that video in Session view is audio only and I had to drop it into Arrange view.

Make sure your Quicktime movie is in Photo JPEG codec. Live seems to like this one the best.

That is correct. Live only shows the video for files in arrangement.
