Delay compensation + hardware synths? please advise..

Could I ask someone who successfully uses hardware synths to break down how they are doing it?
I have some plugins which induce enormous latency., which can not be compensated by Ableton's delay compensation function.
I could work around it in some ways, but really, I can't find consistency. If I quantize notes to the grid with my hardware synths and delay compensation active, the timing is horrible, because actually, live is recording my input slightly later than "1" and calling it "1"
The way to fix this is to record with both delay compensation AND reduced latency when monitoring. Unfortunately, that only allows for one synth at a time to be tracked in, because the moment I am not monitoring one hardware track but it has not been frozen or printed yet, its timing goes off. Mean I can only have one hardware synth at a time looping... not fun!
Can anyone help me get a better overall idea of what the hell is happening, how they deal with it, or what they recommend?
