hi guys

im running Live 8 with win xp on a lenovo thinkpad and want to have connected and simultaneously working all my usb (and probably more) devices at the same time:

usb devices i currently have:
- Allen&Heath xone:dx (as soundcard)MB
- APC40
- MPD32
- Evolution UC-33
- Korg microKontrol

appearently my laptop only deals with 2 usb devices simultaneously, the soundcard (Allen&Heath xone:dx) and e.g. the APC40 (or any other 2nd device, besides the soundcard, that i connect). I've researched, tested and checked a couple of scenarios, like using a powered usb hub or using a docking station, updating BIOS, chipset, etc. - issue remains the same, only 2 usb devices usable at the same time.

Anyone who has an idea on how to resolve this situation in order to connect and use all my devices at the same time? use an usb hub especially for audio usb devices? or switch to a Mac, if macbook pro can deal with multiple usb devices simultaneously? any other suggestions?

My 2006 Macbook Pro handles more than 2 devices and so does my 2008 Mac Pro.
Can't imagine current macs couldn't do the same.

thx Opz, afaik macbook Pro has 2 usb ports - how do you connect >2 usb audio devices; with an external usb hub, or somehow different?

Just use some super glue on the cords. Strip them down, glue em together, then wrap a bunch of duct tape around it. Viola!

Seriously though - USB hub. It just has multiple input ports and one output - only takes up one of your computer's ports.

Looking at your setup I have to admit that my setup was/is quite different. But to give you a idea what can be hooked up at the same time:
In the past I had at least 5 usb devices and 2 firewire devices connected to the macbook pro. Nowadays, the laptop has 2 or 3 usb devices depending on the situation and sometimes 1 firewire 400 device. The Mac Pro currently has 9 usb devices and 2 firewire (fw400 and fw800) devices.

It seems he already tried that reading his first post but for some strange reason it still didn't allow him to use more than 2 usb devices at the same time. Maybe a faulty port on his Lenovo laptop? It sure isn't a WinXP limitation.
