I am having a really hard time figuring out what this modulating effect does and was wondering if anyone could explain it in simple terms (what is happening as I move the spin dot around the x/y axis field)

this has been a mystery for me for many years so I would also like to know.

when spin button is on...
and both x-y are at their minimum
then the ER time is modulated by 2ms at 0.07Hz rate...
goes up to 55 ms / 1.3 Hz
the effect this has is a phasing effect/slight diffusion of the ER...much like a chorus

to listen more closely to the effect..
turn off all other sections..
Diffuse set to -30dB.. 'reflect' at 0dB
100% wet
put 'shape' at 0 and pre-delay low..

and now listen to how it affects the late reflections..
put 'decay time' at around 1.5 sec.
turn up Diffuse..
play with it...and also play with 'shape' and 'size'

Ableton reverb is very good reverb inspired from the famous lexicon reverb that use spin, wander, shape etc...

In ableton X/Y axes control rate (fluctuations speed in Hz) and amount (in ms) to add cyclic variations of delay on the early reflections to add a kind of chorus effect in early reflections.
Amount should be around 10ms and rate 1Hz.
The result is more intricate, complex and so more real echoes befor the tail reverb. And in fact, in a good algorithmic reverb you should not hear distinctly echoes due to early reflections, but just the initial sound followed by its tail reverb as for a real reverb.
