Yo yo,

Does any body out there know of a decent simple synth where i can assign a few midi CCs to variouse knobs and creat my own on the fly rising effects?

The problem with most synths i.e. operator is that when you adjust the transpose the piitch rises in semitones rather than a smooth glide.

Im also wanting to apply an LFO downward saw wave which can also add effect.

I know i can preprogram a riser via clips, automation etc but im trying to find a tool which will allow me to do it "live".

Any ideas?

You could map Operator or Analog so that a knob (instrument rack, physical, or both) adjusted the pitch bend rather than the transpose knob. Then just increase the bitch bend range to where you want it to go...

Simple solution, but hope it helps.

I know you're asking for live control, but just wanted to throw it out there that FM8 lets you link envelopes to DAW tempo, so you could design a riser that goes for exactly 2 or 4 or 8 bars, for example, no matter what track you're playing. It's not the simplest synth out there, but it's certainly decent.

I did think off that but the problem is that you are limited to only 2 octives or somerthing like that,

Im wantin to do rizers that range from 0 htz all the way to 20K !!! (sort of thing),

Any other suggestions?

Thanks for the reply, Im wanting to free my self up as much as possible so i dont want to be tied down to fixed lenths, but thanks again for the suggestion,

Regardless of what synth you end up with, I'd probably look at linking pitch to an envelope and automating envelope control (or optionally pitch bend, as cpyatak mentioned), rather than fiddling with transposing. Aside from the problems you mentioned with smooth transitions, you'd also have to reset the tuning if you planned to use the sound more than once in a track.

Im sure Max for live could provide something that i need but these days i spend to much time pissing around with M4L rather than writing tunes!!!

Found a solution for now,

Using a synth with allows you to set the pitch an osc via freq such as NI Massive, I have wipped up a little M4L patch where you can assign a midi cc to a live dial, live dial sends it 0 - 1 through a line object set at about 500ms and then into a live object. you configure the massive synth so you can assign a cc to its osc 1 and using live.path navigate to the live GUI for the osc 1. As the GUI uses values from 0. to 1. you can get a smooth transition when messing with pitch.

When i have fully sorted it i'll post on maxforlive.com.
