Another call for PDC,
had a cool idea to start using 2 machines with FX teleport... but alas, it would be useless in Live without PDC.
PLEASE!??

Another vote.
I've read in certain threads that there was an "official" response from Ableton explaining why they don't want to implement it. Anyone have a link to this? I'd like to understand their reasoning behind it. As long as you can disable it, what can it hurt?

YEah, i'd really like to know this, feel like its really holding back on things ... i'd love to be able to use Powercore, UAD, FX teleport etc as well as certain more cpu intensive plugs.
If there's a reason why they're not going to do it, i want to know.

Can anyone point me in the direction of Abletons official response on this?

I've searched the forum and have not found any official statements from the ableton's reguarding PDC as a matter of fact there are only 2 posts from the abletons
http://www.ableton.com/index.php?main=forum

both in regards to employment.
Fact is that PDC is going to be a requirment for Live to remain competitive in the DAW market. And is the next logical improvement for this software.
BTW: I am using 2 PCs together in a similar way to FX teleport. there are some latency issues but for the most part it works well with VST instruments running in Vstack on a dedicated PC, and being triggered from Live on another PC then recorded back into Live once bussed down through a digital mixer. my VSL 2020 sound cards make this possible and easy with an average latency of ~5ms (this increases if there are more VSTi's being triggered or buffer size is above 256 samps)
Basically the leason here is that software only does half the battle, and good hardware is at least as important as good software, and it must all be compatible with each other. PDC will significantly reduce the barrier between the two but will not be the end all fix. (especially for the "House of Waxxhopper" studio. In the end even our PCs are top quality hardware {i.e. no Gateway's or Dell's here folks})
EDIT: I have also read the info on FX teleport (something totally new to me) from my understanding of how it works there shouldn't be much need for PDC with Live. However, I would suggest...
1)gigabit ethernet controllers and cabling
2)closed network using the best giga-bit switch you can afford.(to connect just two PCs use a giga-bit crossover cable)
3)the PC running the server app needs to be FAST atleast the power of the host. Faster if possible!!!
IF THE ABLETONS ARE ON TOP OF THE GAME THEY WILL SNATCH UP THIS TECHNOLOGY FOR THEMSELVES BEFORE STIENBERG GRABS IT FROM THEM. This combined with a form of Dynamic PDC would create a seemless link and could easily compete with Steinberg's VSL technology.
I'm thinking of giving this a try and will let other Live users know how it goes.

Cool - looking forward to seeing the results,
my idea came cos I'm thinking of getting a desktop PC soon, and using the lappy for live performance and with fx teleport as a server for vst's while I'm producing in the studio.
