where can i learn ableton?

is groove 3 any good?
how did you learn it?

is the dubspot online ableton course "Ableton Live Producer Certificate Program" that costs 4750 worth it???



how do you learn synthesis. I have tried using "strobe" but cant really produce any good sounds.



any help is greatly apreciated.

I learnt Ableton by using the built in tutorials, getting bored and trying to make my own music, hitting the limits of my understanding, reading bits of the manual and searching out stuff on the internet/this forum. Talking to and playing with other musicians/producers has helped me a lot.
Eventually I got to a point where I understood the software and how it deals with audio and midi data well enough for Live to help me realise my ideas rather than shape them. Synthesis I learnt in much the same way. I also examined other people's patches and got to understand how they worked by breaking them. I've also learnt a lot by spending hours playing moronic patterns on a synth, tweaking a parameter until I liked it, and repeating this process until I there was nothing I could change without making the sound less interesting. The important part was finding this holiday in Aspergersland enjoyable in its own right.

leave the help box open in the lower right corner. spend some time and hover the mouse over ALL the controls. do an exercise with each one.

also, try answering questions on the forum. there's no better way to learn what you do and don't know than to think your thoughts through clearly and have people around to correct or append to your answer.

many many dubspot tuts on utube, free...theyre good, but many different teachers are also great...ive seen tons of topics that dubspot dont cover

On learning synthesis - nothing beats playing around on a real synth IMO. Never used strobe, so don't know how intuitive it is, but I would start off with a basic synth and learn subtractive synthesis (google it for info). Learning what oscillators, envelopes and filters actually are is the first step. Then onto the different type of each one of those. That is the very basics and you should have fun playing around with a basic synth armed with this knowledge. Practical experience is the key though as I said - along with patience.

I can imagine trying to charge that much. holy @#$%^&!! there are some dumb lazy rich people out there!

they'd have to be industry people getting the label to pay for it.
