At the moment, on windows (not sure about mac) - If you start ableton with your controler / midi device powered off, you must close ableton, then turn on the device, then relaunch ableton. - this wastes time, especially loading a large project.
And, if you ever need to troubleshoot a midi device, - you will find your self closing and re-opening ableton like a stupid fool while you put your devices through various modes and tests...(like ive had to recently)
No Restart Needed to see hardware MIDI / Audio Devices
