When I use external midi CC through Yoke to control things like a pitch plugin, there is a big difference between the rendered and the resampled result. Resampled are OK, rendered not.

I used Bidule to do the CC creation and deliver it to Live via Yoke and could see that Bidule was working seemingly correct during the rendering process but the CC it deliverd was not used.

Is it so that external control is ignored during rendering - you are maybe supposed to have recorded the automation before rendering, not having it running live at that time?
Rendering will take the current content of the arrangement, so external controls of track plugins are not overwriting the arrangement information, and therefore not rendered - right?
I was a little disappointed, but Ok there's always the resample method.

yes, when Live renders something incoming MIDI data is ignored. The reason for that is simply that the incoming MIDI (assuming a physical MIDI interface) is out of sync.

Of course in your scenario it is in sync because the MIDI data is triggered from a ReWire slave using a virtual MIDI interface (which can operate much faster as the "normal" MIDI protocol over MIDI cables would allow).

So to handle this we would need to separate between "MIDI is in sync" or "MIDI is not in sync".

In general I always recommend to prefer Resampling when using any kind of ReWire connection. There is nothing in the ReWire protocol to separate between a real time and not-real time (like rendering) processing.

Thanks Alex for clearing this out.
The Plogue people explained it in a similar manner, so I think I understand the matter better now.
Bidule was not used in real rewire mode here but worked alongside Live via Bidule's VST bridge, but as you say, it's hard for the host to know, especially when you "fool" it with virtual midi connections.

Edit: After some more tests I come to the conclusion that VST(i) bridge mode + Yoke is a far more flexible setup than rewire. I can send both audio and midi direct from specific tracks in Live to Bidule, sync Bidule to Live, get Midi from bidule via Yoke and audio via the VST bridge.
