Hi, i bought the akai Apc 40 & ableton. I installed ableton and now i want to install the controller. The problem is that on the akai manuel they say that i have to install the lite version give with the akai even if i have already bought ableton before. But if i do that, which one have i to use after? The lite version or the complete one? i don't understand why i need to install 2 different ableton to use my controller, its strange and difficult because the two ableton can't be opened together, i'm a bit lost can you help me? thanks!

If I remember correctly when I installed Live lite Akai edition, it told me I already had a newer version of the program and so it would not install live lite on my computer but it would load the Akai drum racks into the library. I think that you should be able to use the controller with Live 8 (or even 7) without installing anything. try it out.

yeah, there's no need to install the Akai version of Live.
The APC40 is using "remote scripts" that come built into all later versions Live (8 and up).
The APC40 will work without installing whatever is on the Akai Live disk.

not true. 7.0.18 also works with apc40.

just not the whole truth, and I was not certain. Better the half truth than misinformation.

I'm waiting for my APC 40 to arrive. There are AKAI Drum racks in the lite version that comes with? Are they any good?

I thought you just needed any version of live after or including the last version of 7, Plugged in and it all worked automagically. Maybe that's just the mac though and PCs need drivers. :-/
