What is the best internal soundcard to use with live?

Or is it the best solution to use an external?

I am assuming you are asking this regarding a desktop and not a laptop, right?

internal is probably better. I use external and get very low latency with an Edirol UA101 I bought over 5 years ago for ~$300 IIRC. with external the CPU talks to the USB/firewire port via the PCI bus. with internal the card sits right on the PCI bus so there's one less step of messaging.

I might say the computer's specs matter more, internal vs external is a moot point. that extra step of talking over USB is going to be less than a sample time anyway.

RME are considered Quality sound cards.

what are your computer specs? if it's a good machine it doesn't matter much. shop for the number of inputs and outputs and quality of the mic/instrument pre-amp.

i have not had any problems with it
